Horse Racing Odds Explained is part of Racing Tipster Radar's evidence-first guide to paid and free horse-racing tipping services. Our aim is not to promise winners. It is to help readers understand what a service says it offers, what evidence is available, and which questions still need answering before money is committed.

Horse Racing Odds Explained

Odds determine the return on a winning bet and express a market view of probability.

Fractional odds

At 5/1, a £10 win stake returns £60 in total if successful: £50 profit plus the £10 stake.

Decimal odds

The same price is 6.00 decimal. Multiply stake by decimal odds to calculate total return: £10 × 6.00 = £60.

Why this matters for tipsters

A results record must use a consistent price rule. Small differences in odds compound across many bets, so advertised performance may not match a follower who routinely obtains shorter prices.

Research standard

Performance claims require evidence. Useful background sources include the UK Gambling Commission's safer-gambling guidance, ASA/CAP gambling and tipster advertising guidance, and structured third-party tip records where methodology is visible. Commercial terms should always be checked on the live merchant checkout.
